Description
Features of the RESPI-IN-OUT Spirometer
The device consists of several main components:
- 1. Main Body
The main body is the central part of the RESPI-IN-OUT and houses its breathing exercise mechanism. During exercise, users inhale and exhale through this section.
- 2. Breathing Tube
The breathing tube connects the mouthpiece to the main body, allowing air to flow throughout the inhalation and exhalation cycle.
- 3. Mouthpiece
The mouthpiece is the part through which users breathe during exercise. The device is designed to allow users to keep their mouth on the mouthpiece throughout the breathing cycle, moving from inhalation to exhalation and back again without interrupting the exercise.
- 4. Internal Indicator
The device incorporates an internal indicator system for observing and monitoring airflow during exercise. This provides visual feedback to help users follow their breathing exercises.
- 5. Three Coloured Connectors with Mesh Filters
The RESPI-IN-OUT includes three coloured connectors that allow users to adjust the exercise resistance.
The connectors are available in three colours:
- Red
- Yellow
- Green
Each connector contains a mesh filter with openings of a different size.
The different opening sizes affect airflow through the filters, changing the level of resistance during exercise. The appropriate connector should be selected according to the exercise goal and, for therapeutic use, in accordance with the physician’s or therapist’s instructions.
Manufacturer: Manufactured by MEDINET SRL, Italy.
How the RESPI-IN-OUT Spirometer Works
- 1. Inhalation: Starting the Exercise Cycle
First, users place the mouthpiece in their mouth and inhale through the device.
During inhalation, the RESPI-IN-OUT functions as a volume exerciser, designed to encourage deeper inhalation. At this stage, the device supports controlled breathing exercises, allowing users to focus on improving the depth and quality of their breathing through correctly repeated inhalations.
The aim of this phase is to establish an appropriate pattern of deep, controlled inhalation.
- 2. Exhalation: Continuing the Exercise Cycle
After inhaling, users move into the exhalation phase, directing air out through the same pathway.
During this phase, the RESPI-IN-OUT functions as a positive pressure exerciser. The device creates resistance to airflow during exhalation, so users breathe out against positive pressure.
This feature extends the exercise beyond inhalation, engaging the respiratory muscles during both inhalation and exhalation.
- 3. Repeating the Breathing Cycle
After exhalation, the cycle begins again with inhalation. Users can therefore continue a sequence of inhalation, exhalation, inhalation and exhalation, as directed by their physician or therapist.
This design distinguishes the RESPI-IN-OUT from devices that focus solely on inhalation exercises or encouraging deep breathing, as it is designed to exercise both phases of breathing.
Role in Respiratory Care
The Medinet RESPI-IN-OUT is described as a device for deep-breathing exercises and respiratory rehabilitation, including during postoperative recovery. Its design aims to encourage deep inhalation and exhalation. As part of an appropriate care programme, these exercises may help improve ventilation within the lungs and facilitate the movement of respiratory secretions.
The device should be used as prescribed by a physician. Based on the patient’s condition, the physician determines the appropriate connector, exercise technique, frequency and duration of use.
