Description
What Is a Zirconia Polisher and How Does It Work?
A zirconia polisher is a rotary abrasive instrument used to refine and polish zirconia restoration surfaces. Contact between the working section and the restoration helps reduce irregularities and improve the surface finish.
Following contour or contact adjustments, the surface may require polishing. Instrument selection must reflect the adjustment required, zirconia material and restoration manufacturer’s instructions.
Stages of the 3 Step Zirconia System
Step 1: Reveal — Extra Coarse Grit
Reveal features Extra Coarse grit for the initial stage of the finishing sequence. Its use should reflect the surface condition to avoid unnecessary material removal.
Step 2: Polish — Medium Grit
Polish, with Medium grit, provides intermediate finishing and helps reduce marks left by the preceding stage.
Step 3: Shine — Fine Grit
Shine features Fine grit for finer polishing and improved surface gloss. The final result depends on the restoration’s condition, the sequence of stages and operating technique.
Applications of the Three-Step Zirconia Polisher
Finishing After Restoration Adjustment
The system may be selected to finish zirconia surfaces following contour or contact adjustments. The need for each stage should be assessed according to the surface condition.
Producing a More Uniform Surface
Successive grit grades allow progressive surface refinement. Assessing the result throughout the procedure is important for preserving restoration contours and limiting material removal.
Polishing Different Restoration Areas
Appropriate shape and size selection supports access to different surfaces and contours. A single geometry is not necessarily suitable for every area.
Features of the Prima Illume 3 Step Zirconia System
Designed for Zirconia Polishing
This range is intended for zirconia restorations. Similarity in appearance to composite or other ceramic polishers does not establish equivalent applications.
A Defined Finishing Sequence
Reveal, Polish and Shine identify the stages of the system. Stage name, grit grade and product code must be checked together when selecting an instrument.
A Choice of Connections and Dimensions
The range includes **RA versions for compatible contra-angle handpieces** and **HP versions for compatible straight handpieces**. Connection type and dimensions must suit the equipment and intended setting.
Reusable Design
These products are described as reusable. Use for another patient requires cleaning, condition checks and sterilization according to the applicable product instructions.
General Specifications

The range presented does not indicate that every option is available in stock. The specifications of the selected version must be checked against its packaging and product information.
Use and Maintenance
Before use, inspect the instrument for damage, confirm connection compatibility and ensure correct seating and secure retention. Operating speed, applied pressure, cooling and the sequence of stages must follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
Avoid excessive pressure or prolonged contact in one area. Stop using the instrument if damage, wear or abnormal performance is identified. Reusability does not imply an unlimited service life.
